Stay Active with Python Over the Holidays

Hey Pythonista,

We had a wonderful response to my email earlier this week on the tech industry, the Amazon layoffs, and the tips I shared.

A concern raised by a few who responded was that it's now moving into the holiday season, especially in North America with U.S Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

Things generally slow down at this time of year - people go on leave, and progress grinds to a halt. People are worried about job prospects, interviews, and further layoffs given how uncertain the industry feels right now.

I was also asked for advice on staying fresh with Python over the holidays, and how you can do that with Pybites (I appreciated the "with Pybites" part!).

Firstly: code every day (or as often as you can).

It doesn't matter whether it's with Pybites, nor does it matter how long your coding sessions are. Just build the habit to prevent your skills from stagnating.

That said, from a Pybites perspective here's what's on the menu:

  1. For daily coding practice, you can't go past the Pybites Platform. Get on it and tackle the Bite Exercises for your skill level. You can even check out the Learning Paths if you're interested in learning something new. You might also earn a Credly badge in the process!

  2. If you're a beginner, consider our PDI Coaching Program. If you're experienced with Python, then you'll want the PDM Coaching Program. Either way, these programs will build your Python skills like nothing else. Check out each of the pages and let us know if you have any questions.

  3. On the days you can't get fingers to keyboard, try listening to the Pybites Podcast for some Python and Mindset inspiration. Available on all podcast apps.

  4. Hang out in our community and take on a Community Code Challenge. Even if the challenge has ended, just read the instructions and code away at the challenge for yourself. Then share whatever you build!

Of course, the holidays are for relaxing too, so definitely switch off and enjoy yourself. Just don't forget your goal, especially given the current economic climate.

Good luck, enjoy and we're here when you need us.

Cheers,

Julian
