Hey Pythonista,

Happy new week! Here are our 5 bullets of the week:

1) Habits are everything!

What did you have for breakfast? (What breakfast? You always read the Pybites email first of course!)

Have you already done your physical exercise?

How much coding did you complete on your personal projects last week?

Habits make or break success!

As Aristotle said: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."

Habits are hard to build but once in place they're hard to break. As Samuel Johnson well put: "The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken."

If you struggle with this, here are two resources:

By the way, if you have a mindset related win, share it in our community.

2) Status of Python versions

How do you stay up2date with Python's development progress?

A member of our community shared the Python Developer's Guide with us which includes a comprehensive overview of the Python release cycle, detailing the current status of various versions.

In a quick graph you can see which versions are in security maintenance, which have reached end-of-life, and what the future holds:

3) Python makes coding accessible to everyone

This has to be our favourite kind of story. On the upcoming Pybites Podcast epsiode, Julian speaks with Luis Palacios, an IT Analyst and aspiring Cloud Architect.

What makes this conversation extra special is that Luis shares his journey from a traditionally "blue collar", labour intensive role, to his first job in I.T. Full disclaimer: he achieved this after completing our PDM Program.

Luis shares how learning Python and Mindset skills built his confidence such that he was able to apply for his first tech role and then continue pushing through the complexities and challenges that came with it.

This really reinforces one of our current messages to folks that Python makes coding accessible to everyone. It doesn't matter who you are, or what industry you're in, Python can help you achieve your goals!

The episode comes out this week so make sure you're subscribed to the podcast in one or all of the following places:

4) Pybites Orange belt in just 10 days

We wanted to celebrate this community win by Peter and his feedback on our platform:

> I’m beginning to notice now the areas I am weaker in and require more time in and where I am stronger

We love this feedback of what our exercises do for people:

  • Really putting people to the test

  • Revealing gaps

  • Showing people more idiomatic ways of doing things

  • Giving people confidence in their coding skills

  • Having people connect with other developers

If you're new to our platform, there are 30 free exercises as well as a month free trial. Start here:
https://codechalleng.es/

If you've been there before, but feel a bit rusty now, we challenge you to set a goal to hit a certain ninja belt by date x and then make it a habit to code an exercise every day (see 1 - habits!)

Feel free to share this goal in our community (as well as your wins): https://pybites.circle.so

5) From the archives

One cool way to keep your GitHub profile up2date is by creating a self-updating GitHub Readme, a trick I learned from Simon Willison. I documented how I made mine to pull in different feeds.

Check it out here: https://pybit.es/articles/how-to-create-a-self-updating-github-readme/

I hope this gives you inspiration to make your GitHub profile more engaging.

---

Go smash it this week!

Let us know if we can help you with anything.

Bob & Julian

P.S. If you want to take your Python and developer skills to the next level, coaching is the way:

  • Learn in just a matter of weeks what took experts years to truly grasp.
  • Unlock potential you don't believe you have.
  • Build your biggest and most complex project to date.
  • Have high accountability, because often the problem isn't tech, it's not persisting through to the end!
  • Boost your portfolio, something that is more necessary now that the market is tougher.
  • Be part of a supportive community of like-minded people that want to grow fast just like you.

Our programs give you this and so much more.
